SILK AND FIRE lamps is a collaboration between artists Ruth Conway and Linda Knudsen of Bloomington, Indiana.

Ruth has 30 years of experience in ceramics and all of her pottery is wood fired in a  hand built
kiln that is located on her property in rural Indiana.  Each firing of the kiln takes 16 hours and requires a constant supply of wood to keep the kiln burning at the proper temperature. The beauty of wood fired pottery is in the unique patterns that are created by the ash that has fallen on the pottery while the wood is burning.  All of Silk and Fire lamp bases are created using this technique.

Linda is a fiber artist that makes hand dyed silk lampshades.  Each piece of fabric is specifically dyed to enhance the color and texture of the lamp bases and requires multiple dye baths and dyeing techniques.  The fabric is then laminated to styrene that Linda cuts into custom drafted lampshade patterns.

Every Silk and Fire lamp
is a totally unique work of art that makes a distinctive  statement in home or office.
